Top 5 Beaches Near Parkside Westphalia

Summer is here, and what better way to spend the long days than time at the beach. As work and schedules and other factors keep us from spending all summer at the beach we’ve located the top 5 near Parkside Westphalia, all located less than an hour and a half away. These locations are a great place to spend time with the family for a day at the beach!

North Beach

North Beach, MD is located 30 minutes from Parkside Westphalia, straight down route 4. It’s a town in Calvert County, Maryland located with the larger town of Chesapeake Beach. Called “The Jewel of the Chesapeake Bay”, the area has lots of events throughout the season to enjoy. It’s a seven-block waterfront with a public fishing pier and a half-mile long boardwalk with accompanying bike path. The beach and bathrooms at the welcome center are open year-round from dawn until dark. There is a fee, and there are no lifeguards. See the welcome video here.

Breezy Point Beach

Breezy Point Beach and Campground is located 40 minutes from Parkside Westphalia and is also in Calvert County, Maryland. Open daily from May 1st through October 31st from 6:00 a.m. to dusk, Breezy Point is a popular destination on warm summer days. You can camp in the campground, have a picnic or use the provided grills in the picnic area, and search for shark teeth. Yes, shark teeth are a common and fun thing to look for on this half mile of sandy beach. There is a fee and the beach does close when reached to capacity. Find out more about this local beach here.

Sandy Point

Sandy Point is located on a 786-acre Maryland State Park along the Northwestern shore of the Chesapeake Bay, 40 minutes from Parkside. The beaches within the park have great picnic areas that overlook the Bay and the Bay Bridge. There’s a marina store and boat rentals, accessible food and beverage concession, fishing, shelters, bathhouses, playgrounds and more. The beach has life guards on duty from Memorial Day to Labor Day, daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekends and holidays. Fort Smallwood Park

Fort Smallwood Park is located just under one hour from Parkside Westphalia in Pasadena, Maryland. There is water access for public swimming at the park, open from 5:30 a.m. until dusk. There are no lifeguards assigned to the beach and a daily parking fee of $6.00. It’s a huge boating area with a new boat ramp, the county’s first public boat ramp. Recently opened for swimming, this is another great local option for a day at the beach, close to Baltimore Maryland.

Colonial Beach VA

Colonial Beach is located less than an hour and a half away from Parkside Westphalia. Complete with a boardwalk, playground, bathhouse, restaurant, bar, vendors and more this treasure on the Potomac River is a great riverside resort town.  Located directly down 301, Colonial Beach is the second largest public beach in Virginia. They have jet skiing, kayaking, and water skiing as well as many local activities. This is an awesome visit within proximity to home. Learn more about this beach here.
