Coming New To PG County!

The new University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center will open its doors for its first patients in June 2021. For more than a decade, key community stakeholders, elected officials and the leadership team at University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMS) poured their hearts and souls into making a dream a reality: having a local comprehensive medical center for the residents of Prince George’s County. Now, all of this hard work has paid off! The building will have its opening day on June 12.

This will be the first medical center to be built from the ground up in decades, stated Dr. Joseph Wright, MD, MPH, FAAP, senior vice president and chief medical officer at UM Capital Regional Health states “We are moving from a relatively outdated building to a comprehensive facility – an upgrade the community has never seen before.”

Located in Largo in the heart of Prince George’s County, our new state-of-the-art regional medical center will provide improved access to primary and ambulatory care services, and serve as a tertiary care center for critically ill patients. In addition, our new space will allow us to expand our offerings as a community partner to help improve the health status of Prince George’s County residents.

In partnership with the University of Maryland Medical System, UM Capital Region Medical Center will have an entire floor dedicated to heart and vascular care and will be home to a new maternity center and the most technologically advanced operating rooms and critical care units. The new hospital will also serve as a vital asset to recruit new physicians and nurses to this region to provide high-quality, clinically advanced medical care.

The location of the new facility is 901 North Harry S. Truman Drive Largo, Md 20774. Located on 26 acres, it’s 595,744 square feet, 11 levels, contains two roof top helipads, 205 private acute-care rooms, Dedicated Women’s Health floor, 41 ER treatment bays, 8 operating rooms, and Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital will have a 15-bed specialty pediatric hospital within the facility.
