Farmers’ Markets Close to Parkside Open Year-Round!

Farmers’ markets are no longer limited to Spring and Summer, although Spring is on its way so now’s a good of a time as ever to talk about them! There are many local farmers’ markets that host produce from farms located in Maryland and Virginia year-round. Visiting farmers’ markets not only supports local growers but it’s also a great way to meet new people, get some fresh air, and purchase great healthy food! Buying locally grown fresh food is good for the environment, the economy, and most importantly your health.

Check out some of the best locations we’ve found close to Parkside Westphalia open year-round:

Anne Arundel County Farmers’ Market

The Anne Arundel County Farmers’ Market is located in Annapolis, MD, at 275 Harry S. Truman Pkwy, approximately 26 minutes from Parkside Westphalia. This market is open every Sunday from 10:00 a.m.  – 1:00 p.m. year round. They have additional times starting at the end of March, but you can go on Sunday all year! Farmers and vendors offer fresh vegetables, meats, specialty items, and even hot breakfast items. This market has been operating for 37 years and boasts of the best products that Annapolis and Anne Arundel County have to offer.

Del Ray Farmers’ Market

The Del Ray Farmers’ Market is located in Alexandria, Virginia at Mt. Vernon & Oxford Ave. in the Del Ray neighborhood, approximately 25 minutes from Parkside Westphalia. Every Saturday, all year round from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. you can visit the over 20 farmers and vendors offering fruits and vegetables, meat, poultry, fish, eggs, cheeses, breads, fresh pasta, backed goods and cut flowers.

Almaala Farms

Almaala Farms is open from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday thru Saturday, and on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Union Market, located at 1309 5th Stree NE in Washington, DC. This location is less than 25 minutes away from Parkside and sells fresh local produce including tomatoes, peaches, okra, grapes and more. All produce is grown and harvested on Abedalelah Almaala’s Eastern Shore farms. Fun fact, this business has been a part of Union Market since 1996!

Eastern Market

Eastern Market is a local favorite less than 15 minutes from Parkside, located right down Pennsylvania Ave at 225 7th Street SE, Washington, DC in the heart of Capitol Hill. The freshest produce is sold from farmers from rural counties in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia on Tuesdays and the weekend. The market is open every Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. for the “Fresh Tuesdays Farmers Market, and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. for “The Weekend Farmers’ Line.”  Eastern Market is a fun filled top notch open-air food market of fresh produce. This location also serves as one of the few historic public market buildings left in Washington, DC and the only one that has retained its original public market function. The building is designated as a National Historic Landmark and the market has been in continuous operation since 1873. Cool right?

Old Town Farmers’ Market

Old Town Farmers’ Market is held each Saturday morning year-round at the Market Square Plaza located at 301 King Street, less than 20 minutes from Parkside in Old Town Virginia. This market has been held here for over 260 years, and it’s the oldest farmers’ market in the country to be held continuously at the same site. George Washington sent his produce from Mount Vernon to be sold at this very same farmers’ market! During the peak season there are more than 70 vendors offering fruits and vegetables, meat, poultry, cheeses, breads, pastries, fresh pasta, pickled vegetables, cut flowers, potted plants, soaps, fabrics, art, etc. Visit this nearby market on Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. For other Farmers’ Markets open year-round in Virginia, click here.
