There is a lovely small pond located within the Parkside at Westphalia’s community, where you’ll see a family of Geese from time to time. In venturing out just 5 miles to downtown Upper Marlboro, there is a larger, very scenic pond right off Main Street. It’s a local best kept secret named School House Pond. It’s a wetland area with a 12-acre pond and surrounding parkland and a 0.75-mile boardwalk. There is also a walking trail around the pond, perfect for dog walking or just walking, or even picnicking!
It’s amazing that a scene like this can be just minutes from your home. To add even more interest, you can fish in this pond (with a fishing license) as it’s stocked with trout each year by the Department of Natural Resources. If you’re a birdwatcher, there is an entire list of bird species that are present at School House Pond, found at (http://www.mncppc.org/DocumentCenter/View/2623/Bird-Checklist—-School-House-Pond-PDF).
And…what a sunset!!
The physical location of the pond is 14100 Governor Oden Bowie Drive Upper Marlboro, MD 20772.
